Women's Corner Initiative

....(WCI) is a non-profit, non-governmental organization that is committed to empowering women and girls via sexual and reproductive health education, campaign and services.

AT WOMEN’S CORNER, WE ARE COMMITTED TO

Helping women attain optimal Sexual & Reproductive health.

Vision

Our Vision is to create a society where women and girls can attain a healthy sexual and reproductive life.

Mission

To implement quality programs that will ultimately guarantee a good sexual and reproductive health for women and girls

Our programs revolve around 3 pillars of sexual and reproductive health

Maternal health

Maternal health is the health of women during pregnancy, childbirth and the postnatal period. Each stage should be a positive experience, ensuring women and their babies reach their full potential for health and well-being. Maternal mortality is unacceptably high with about 287 000 deaths recorded in 2020 of which Sub-Saharan Africa alone accounted for around 70% of the maternal deaths (WHO).
This is why WCI is partnering with individuals, organizations, and the governments to enhance maternal health in Nigeria and Africa at large and consequently reduce maternal mortality.

Family planning

Family planning allows women to have their desired number of children (if any) and to determine the spacing of their children. Delaying pregnancies in young girls who are at increased risk of health problems from early childbearing, and preventing pregnancies among older women who also face increased risks, are important health benefits of family planning. Contraception also reduces unsafe abortion by reducing rates of unwanted pregnancies. In all, prevention of unwanted pregnancies helps to lower maternal mortality.

Contraception/family planning can also benefit the education of girls as they are no more likely to drop out of school following unwanted pregnancy.

Unfortunately, according to WHO 2017 estimates, 214 million women of reproductive age in developing regions have an unmet need for contraception and are denied all the benefits.

Sexual health

Sexual health requires a positive and respectful approach to sexuality, as well as the possibility of having safe sexual experiences, free of coercion, discrimination and violence. The ability of women and girls to achieve sexual health and well-being depends on their: access to comprehensive, good-quality information about sex and sexuality; knowledge about the risks they may face and their vulnerability to adverse effects of casual sexual activity; ability to access sexual health care and so on.

WCI approaches every of her program with the belief that healthy sexual and reproductive life is a must for every woman and girl.
